Interesting. I would like you to be right on this.

I pulled up 22 CFR and I agree with you that Subpart H would appear to apply to only the 800Mhz services because of 22.905. If there were other frequencies for "Cellular Radiotelephone Service" the would have to be listed. But as you say, here's the puzzle: Where are the current digital services regulated if not in Subpart H? Originally of course, the FCC has used "radiotelephone" to refer to analog services. (Certainly that was the case back when I got my First Class Radiotelephone license -- there were no digial transmission beyond Morse code! Of course that license allowed me to operate and maintain televison transmitters as well, so not quite "telephone.") So maybe current cellular technology is called something else and handled outside Subpart H? I dunno.

I got mine back in the foggy 70's. Since they don't issue them anymore, pretty soon there won't be any of us left alive!

Funny. So this thread is kind of like the old farts' morning coffee and BS table at any small town restaurant. I got my General class ham license in 7th grade and my first 'phone sometime after I entered high school, so pre-'65. Certificate is lost, though, so I don't know if I have braggin' rights over Jim's 1964 date or not. Actually my dream was to also get a first class radiotelegraph license but that required something like two months of actual shipboard experience as a radio operator and from the middle of the continent I was never able to figure out a way to make that happen!
