Chuck, we'll look at those reports - will let you know what we discover.

Hi Chuck, I replied to your logs. The logs indicate that 9.8.7 *is* correctly processing the malformed location message, so that part is good. My analysis of the rest of your log looks fairly normal, and looks the same as if your device's GPS firmware/hardware is acting flaky at your location. It might behave better outside or in a different location. We're simply reporting the signal strength that the device tells us about. And in the log you sent me, I see the GPS falters twice, but only for 11 seconds (first time) and 2 seconds (2nd time). For the rest of the 6 minutes shown in this log, we're reporting a decent GPS signal.

In my email I requested that you run your test against Google Maps, while driving in areas that have a clear view of the sky. Compare the two, and see if the results aren't acceptable, and more similar.

Hey Brian, I responded via email. I tried what you said. Google Maps works fine as does another aviation app (Avare). Both immediately get a GPS position and keep it. At the same time and place (be it in a car, airplane or just walking down the street), iFly says "No GPS Position Lock". Occasionally, iFly gets a lock but quickly loses it and stays lost.

I'm sure this is not a fun issue since it's a one-off but.....just for the record. I downloaded iFly to a friend's LG Aristo and same thing: No GPS Position Lock. So, it's not just my phone - it's a thing with this model, I guess.

Brian:

I reported my similar issue on another "NO GPS LOCK" message and now I see this response from you stating it is an LG firmware issue due to the way they handle coordinates.

My question then is...

Why them did this LG G Pad work OK for many flights and only now does it fail only on IFLY, but not on any other app requiring GPS lock?

I did send a bug report.

John
