This is a climb out into terrain, as directed by ATC. You can see the RED rising terrain on the SV...and there were TOWERS on top of the terrain.  You can see them on the chart, (split screen) but on the SV, you cannot really see them that well....recommending a higher contrast color for towers, like white or silver if the group deems this necessary.

Just an opinion of one...

Bottom line: This is tremendous! I've been waiting many, many years for this capability and capacity...THANK YOU.

Mike

I have been using the new Synth Vis a bit differently.

I have full screen EFIS on my 8 inch tablet and the nav only screen on my Galaxy Note 4 phone at the same time.  This also gives one set of instruments on the phone and another set on the tablet with a better Synth View.

Did you know that the EFIS screen targets show the nav lights of the targets? I just discovered this and was BLOWN AWAY!

Aren't we glad we came across IFLY?

John,

YES, that is very cool!

I just used it this weekend to fly to a remote island in the middle of the Chesapeake - Tangier Island!

The SV helped me SEE the island way out there before I could see it visually - very helpful!

Flying down the Bay with all the islands, contrasts and interesting places was incredible in SV and visually!

Michael:

I like the photos you post.

I do not fly at night in single-engine aircraft and don't like to cross large distances over water.

Catalina Island is only 30 miles from My SoCal coast and if I do fly there I climb at least to 8500 feet before going over the Pacific and I wear a life vest, handheld radio in a waterproof bag. When leaving the island I climb to 7500 MSL.

That said, occasionally we go there for our $100 buffalo burgers. There is a herd of bison on the island.

They charge a $25 landing fee and don't use the money to fix the runway.

However, the next time I go there it will be interesting to see the approaching island on the screen.

John,

You have great flying techniques - I should also do some of the things you are doing over 10-15 mile stretches of open water.  Those are really good ideas! We fly to little islands like this to see what we can do...this is Tangier Island, more specifically, Canton Island off Tangier Island. This summer we will take a crew of 35 or so and just do whatever we can to make this "safer - drier - warmer" for the folks on the island - at NO CHARGE to them at all.  We are so blessed with riches - this is our give-back every June!  Folks out here, 11-12 miles from other land, are living at ONE FOOT MSL.  They get hammered during every storm.  They have been here since the 1600's and speak an Old English dialect - it is very interesting. Not surprisingly, they love aviators who come to the island bringing all sorts of things, people, stories,  and of course, some dollars for crab cake!
