Is the Sky Radar L model just strictly weather? I have the iFly 700 and looking to add weather soon and the $599 price on the L model is looking better to me.

The specs and feature indicate weather only and the single low altitute freq. with internal antennas. It looks like skyradr is competing, and very nicely, with the stratus. For $200 less you get almost the same features and functions. The only thing missing is foreflight support and an 8 hour battery. For the same price as the stratus you can get the dual band and traffic. Really great pricing. Also take a look at their the refurbished section. They had a few new previous gen single band w/traffic for $475 and refurb for $375! The only downside is they rape you for $30+ shipping!

I just ordered mine.

What's tha advantage of the dual band vs the low alt single? The 1 yr. subscription they mention, is that for fore flight? Once you buy the unit there is no subscription for just the weather is it?

The subscription is for their own application. It's an itune app like foreflight or wingx that It uses seattle avionics charts. With the ifly you don't need their subscription.

I can't really speak as an expert of the dual band. I definitely suggest doing some research. From as best as I can tell, and I am not expert, the commecial traffic above FL180 will be using the 1090mhz. Even when they are below FL180 they will still use that frequency. The way I look at it, TIS is a crap shoot. Having dual band might increase the odds of actually seeing something. Given that the price is the same between stratus and the skyradar dualband AND the skayradar works today with the ifly, it seemed a no brainer:)

Does anyone have any experience with the Skyradar-L model and the 720? At $599 if looks like a winner.
