I know that this sounds strange, but my son is asking how to turn off the icon that shows where you are on the sectional. He wants to be able to use the iFly as a plain paper map should the GPS system not be available (for a flight exam). Is this possible???

Hi Don,

Currently, disabling the GPS location icon on the iFly devices is not possible. Now, if you are using a tablet like an iPad or Android, you can turn off the GPS location services. It will then show a banner for No GPS Lock, but there will be an icon at the last known location. So you might want to turn it off away from the airport or flight area.

It's actually an interesting feature idea. I'll pass it along here at the office. It could be a EFB Chart Viewer Mode, basically "No GPS Tracking". I could see an opportunity for Flight Schools or applications where GPS tracking is not allowed. Thanks for the great questions and feedback.

Hi Shane - It's a little off subject, but I'd like to let you know my thoughts about the blinking 'No GPS Signal" banner. I don't like it. I read all the posts about getting your attention when the signal is lost but I think just the solid red banner is ample. I'm concerned about blinking things in the cockpit relative to virago.

I would also like to be able to turn off the 'No GPS Signal' banner while on the ground. I flight plan with the GPS turned off when using my Android tablet or phone.

Thanks, Jim Williams

Jim,

Well noted. We've tried to keep Flashing optional and to a minimum due to that reason. We'll have a nice final solution. A No GPS tracking mode seems like there may be some good opportunities. Stay tuned and thanks for the feedback.

I agree with the "no blinking" policy. A large X and removal of the icon should be enough.

Seems as though I'm the only one reporting GPS signal outages on a regular basis; is this normal?

Thanks,
