Ralph / Jerry,

Good thought. Displaying the 5nm and +/- 3000 ft was part of the initial release and will removed from the 7.6 Manual revision. That was for Version 7.5 and we changed that in 7.6 as many pilots wanted to see all the traffic even though it is less relevant. I'll pass this along to Walter, I'm betting he has check that revision already. Thanks again and have a great Memorial Day Weekend.

I will bump this thread,

Still looking for an ADS-B answer. Thought I had found it with the Zaon MX1090 except unless I am missing something it does not provide weather. A question they never answer on the website if if you MUST have the XRX in order to get all the traffic they claim.

I really want wifi and rechargable so there are few to no cords at least untill I go with a permanent solution. Closest thing I see is the Stratus 2 but last I heard Sportys is keeping it Foreflight bound for the forseeable future.

Comments?

Tim:
I have tried the Stratus 1 with the 720 and they work together. I have not tried the Stratus 2, but it appears from their web site that you need Foreflight to set parameters on the Stratus 2. Have you checked out the Skyguard TWX Vision Pro which is an ADS-B OUT transceiver? skyguardtwx.com/UAT_TRANSCEIVER.html. PIREPS say it works well with the 720. I am about ready to order one now that we have full ADS-B coverage over Ohio (and the Memphis Center, too, for you). I am just waiting for Walter to release a revised software version that let's us use our iFlys to enter the parameters directly into the Vision Pro. The SkyGuard President confirmed to me that these units will be grandfathered once the FAA grants certification, which is under application now. That means they should be legal to use after 2020. Just looks to me like this unit has a lotta bang for the buck, as long as you don't need an AHRS or battery powered. ====Ralph

I'll throw in my 2 cents (or is it $1,400.00) worth? I have the Clarity SV (AHRS and synthetic vision capable) ADS-B /NexGen weather system. Here's the up to date results. Weather - excellent reporting and very helpful when flying in the soup! Traffic Reporting - In central Ohio not so much help (unless you are flying at flight level 180 and up!).

Due to the extremely small package size of the Clarity system, heat dissipation is critical. Initially, I had thermal shutdown related problems when the unit was set on my glare shield but when moved to the pilot side window using the window mount the shutdown issue was eliminated. Battery life is outstanding (flew 4.5 hours with no issues). When the AHRS is talking to the iFly it is really helpful.

There is another situation with the wifi connection on the iFly (I have been told this happens across most if not all of the ADS-B systems) From my conversations with Shane, AP is working with the tablet manufacturer to eliminate these wifi connection conflicts. Once this is rectified the combination iFly 720/ClaritySV will be fantastic!

So far i am not completely happy with the combination but will hang in there until AP resolves the issues (and I am very confident they will in short order)

Hope this helps.....

Paul

Paul,

The WiFi issues are only regarding peer-to-peer units. This seems to be a common issue with other devices out there as many of the ADS-B companies are switching from peer-to-peer over to Access Point. The ipad and computers are designed to handle peer-to-peer, a less common network interface, and typically used for short term connections.

LAN and Access Points are more stable and designed for longer term data connections. The iFly handles these fine. The SkyGuardTWX uses a true LAN network just like a router. SkyRadar, FreeFlight, Stratus all use LAN or Access Points, not peer-to-peer. Soon iLevil will also be using the Access Point WiFi protocol as well.

Walter is working with our suppliers to get a firmware update to tighten up the peer-to-peer connectivity on the iFly 720. I've been using the SkyGuardTWX Vision Pro for a while now with no connection issues. I hope this helps.
