Shane - I'd love to panel mount my iFly. I do have a question - I currently have ships power to battery and battery to iFly. I use the slider on the battery to turn the unit on/off without pulling the plug each time. Looking at the airgizmo mount how do you turn the battery power on/off? Looks like unless you pull the unit from the mount each time then afteryou turn off the ship's power the battery would just keep running the unit until it dies? I like the idea of hiding the battery behind the unit but still want to be able to turn it off. I sent an email to Airgizmos with the same question?

It is my understanding that you will probably want to connect to a switch, or something like the Avionics Switch or Master Switch to cut the battery connection from the External Battery. We are waiting to get our final sample from them and further to get possible inventory to put on our store.

If you did'nt want to install a switch, it just pops in and out very easily. I am thinking you'd just release it, tilt forward to slide the battery on or off, then tilt back up to secure in place. Worst case is if you leave it running, it will deplete the iFly External battery. Upon next flight it will start charging and powering the unit immediately. If this happened, you might not have full battery backup for an about and hour or so. We'll know more in the coming days.

I have my 720 mounted in the panel. It is powered by ships power, through the battery. The power from the battery to the 720 is on a switch. I simply turn the switch in my panel, ON and OFF and it appears to be working properly.

Right, I think I'd connect the Ext battery to the Master or Avionics switch. Then install a switch between the Ext battery and the iFly. This way I can cut the unit power and preserve the external battery. The Master switch would then cut the Main battery from the iFly battery and keep it from depleteing craft power. If you forgot to switch the GPS off, worst case is a depleted GPS battery, the Master would preserve the Craft Battery.

This would really be for more of a semi-perminent install. Experimental?

You may want to consider how much charge current you are feeding into a discharged external battery when it's connected directly to ship's power. It needs to be regulated and protected or you could be in the market for a fire extinguisher. If the battery is Li-Po you'll need a charger designed specifically for Li-Po charging.
