I tried John's method of using sketch, then going into Pan mode on my Samsung Tab A and BINGO! the herky-jerky panning was gone!  The panning patch will be very welcome improvement!

Thanks to all!

MIKE:

I have mentioned the jerky movements on my Android tablet that would preclude accuracy approaches.

We need to get an AHRS input to work with IFLY on our Android devices.

That said, if I had an engine failure when above a solid undercast I feel confident that I could safely descend through the undercast using my Dynon attitude indicator AND synth vis to keep me off the rocks until below the undercast.

My Avid Flyer MK4 is ADSB equipped with Uavionix ECHO UAT and SKY FIX. However, there is no AHRS from that system.

With a check pilot on board, I have made approaches to my field to below minimums by just using my IFLY location on my tablet along with my Dynon attitude display and altimeter. and rate of descent. When I hear IFLY say "500" I look up and continue VFR touchdown.

In the lower boxes on the screen tap on SKETCH. Now touch ON MAP.  Tap DONE. Now if you move your finger/stylus across the map it draws. Now touch the lower right-hand box labeled PAN/SKETCH. Now it is in the PAN position. Panning is very smooth this way.

What we are saying is then when you are in this mode and move your finger across the screen to pan...then the pan is smooth. However, when not in the SKETCH mode and you try to pan, the movement is delayed and jerky. I did not have this issue on my tablet before the upgrade that gave the SKETCH option. In fact, it would be a nice feature if those of us who will never use the SKETCH function could just deactivate it and get rid of yet another choice box on the lower screen. Or let us have a way to drop back to the earlier version.

This above issue is on my Galaxy TAB A Android tablet. My Samsung NOTE 9 does not have this issue. The issue the NOTE 9 has is when I'm in the landscape mode I can't pull up the VFR chart. Only the vector chart. When in the portrait mode I have no problem pulling up either chart.

Brian:

Update to "Jerky Map Syndrome."

I had referenced my  Samsung TAB A tablet, but I was curious if my, currently unused, LG G PAD would exhibit the same issue. Sure enough, it does.

Both of my Windows devices and my Samsung NOTE 9 do not exhibit the same issue. Just the tablets.

And now the issue I had with my NOTE 9 not presenting a VFR chart when in landscape mode. Now, all of the sudden, it works in both modes.

Tim:

Correct. Smooth in Sketch /Pan. Herky Jerky when not in sketch/Pan.

Only on my LG and Samsung tablets.
