A friend just installed the Uavionix ADSB in his RV6. I already have it in my aircraft.

We went up to check his unit out and found a strange indication when we looked at each others target on IFLY.

It used to be that when in the anonymous mode our aircraft would be labeled "NONE." Now we see "PINGxxx" the Xs being the Ping number of our particular Uavionix WiFi signal.

Those using Stratux and WingX do not see this so it seems to only be on IFLY Android units.

Any idea why this would happen.

Also those Ping indications are in a font that make it hard to see other targets close by. Would be nice if we could control that font size.

We are working with Shane at Uavionix to resolve this issue. He is just as helpful as he was at IFLY and we do appreciate his assistance.

What's a "ping number"?

Let me 'splain...

When I used Navworx in the anonymous mode my target would be labeled "NONE."

Now with the Uavionix ECHO ADSB pilots see my target labeled Ping657.

Most likely it is what is sent by the ADSB unit with Navworks and Uavionx choosing a different label.

Opps!

Forgot to mention that the ping number is what Uavionix has named the WiFi connection from its ADSB to my phone and tablet.

I'm told the Echo has always sent "PINGxxxx" when in anonymous mode.
