Mike, great pictures.  It looks like Armish country around there.

Well, one of our local EAA Chapters was the first to host a FLY-IN BREAKFAST after our long struggle with the pandemic here in PA.

Up at Mifflin County Airport (KRVL), the breakfast was ON with no real advertising except "word of mouth" which spread like wildfire around PA, NJ, and MD!

Around 75 planes and 300 people showed up! It was spectacular! So many nice planes!  The iFly helped to keep traffic seperated in the unicom only environment - thanks!

Wow! That's quite a turn-out, Mike!

By the way, I've posted a query about your GPS Status indication on the ADS-B forum--don't understand why it says "ADS-B". http://www.iflygps.com/Support/Forum/...474/scope/posts

Dick,

Yes, thanks for noticing them - in fact, we are in the middle of Amish Country in this region of Pennsylvania. They are fantastic neighbors to all, and I always go out of my way to buy from them. They built my home, which has been virtually maintenance-free for the last 15 years!

Interesting story: At Smoketown Airport (S37), a young Amish boy was given an airplane ride. Fast-forward, he grows up and wants to be a pilot, so he has to leave the culture and eventually is flying TWA 747s. Tragically, he is one of the pilots who perished in the TWA Flight 800, the 747 (July of 1996) that had the centerline tank explode just off the beach of Long Island some decades ago. He was one of 230 who tragically perished. The Amish were invited out to tour a 747 and were amazed at it...still sad, but proud one of their own rose to be a pilot on such a magnificent and large aircraft.

About 10 years ago, when my young son got cancer, we would go to Hershey and get his weekly chemo and surgeries, and we would always meet the friendly Amish who had some of their kids getting treatment as well - they are close-knit families, but will be the first to tell you they are not perfect, but have their own ways of dealing with the world...this is a fascinating place to live if you open your eyes...

Don, I do get "ADS-B Out of Range " from time to time in these remote areas of Central PA...could be I am flying TOO LOW for the towers that we currently have in this region?  I have noticed various "dead spots" around here and know them now...thanks for noticing - I will see what others say about that.

I typically fly at 1500 AGL to enjoy the view.  Over the mountains, I will fly about 2000 over the highest terrain to be able to glide to one of the valleys and land on a logging road if need be, but I THINK that is why I sometimes lose the ADS-B signal...though I confess I am no expert in this area!

Thanks Don.

We had 25+ planes fly into Sunbury Island for a cook out this last Saturday, 4th of July, 2020. What a great way to spend Independence Day!

For anyone who would like to join us, we do this every FIRST SATURDAY of the month on Sunbury Island. Better to land 23 and depart 05 when able.

Great mix of OLD and NEW planes and the food was fantastic - they had to go out and GET MORE because so many more than expected arrived through the late morning.

Good to keep 'em flyin' through this pandemic!

Approaching the Sunbury Island Aerodrome...in PA.

On short final for 23.

Looks like it's going to be a good soft-field landing again.

The FOOD-O-GRAPHS!

Sunbury, a great place to be! Come join us every first Saturday at 1100!
