Mike, I wonder how they ever got the permits to put those islands into the river.  We spent years trying to get a permit to put in a 20' long dock.

Great question, Dick.

I am sure the PA Environmental Folks had a lot to say about it and are watching it closely...as they built multiple peninsulars as they crept from west to east across the river...and then took them down after the spans had settled....to me, that was the most amazing part, because we get a lot of powerful ice flows, logs, and other strong tides flowing south....some amazing planning.

I am attaching THREE MORE photos from the year 2018, two years ago around this time, to illustrate the "creeping penisula" across the river....used as a lay down area and base for the bridge. This is from WEST to EAST....now, the bridge is all the way across and the island below is on the EAST side of the river....

Additionally, that water eventually goes into the Cheasapeake, and the Cheasapeake Commission is always bringing lawsuites agaist PA for this or that....never ends, even when vast improvements have been made over the last 20 years.

Permits near water are now incredibly complicated just about everywhere.  My folks had a waterfront place with a 200 foot deck to a dock that would lift a boat out of the water for storage...I cannot tell you how many permits and inspections he had (in Florida) and that was 20+ years ago - probably impossible now!

Best wishes with your deck...

Well, most airport cafes and restaurants are still closed, but still having fun flying...this time, over the top of clouds.  Good fun getting up top - smooth and clear! iFly helps with the traffic also! (Not to worry, was talking to ATC and maintaining VFR cloud clearances)

Nothing fancy for our Wingmen to eat today for our "$100 Hamburger" -- went to an Italian place and picked up a Meatball Parm to go and had it in our courtesy car (we keep a couple of them around the region)

Winds were kicking -- gusts to 19 across the runway at Gettysburg...nice that iFly has that graphic we can pull out even when out of ATIS or AWOS/ASOS range!

Mike, this must have been one of those "shovel ready" projects from 2009 with 8+ years for permits.

PA went to GREEN today (pandamic response condition) so a few of us went down to Gettysburg to get some chow while seated - good times!

Appalachian Brewing Co. was a good place to go -- indoor or outdoor seating.

Afterwards, a driving tour of "Day 2" of the Battle of Gettysburg.  We keep a "crew car" there and meet to eat and tour parts of the field on a regular basis - it is a good combination as we can always find new things to see and new places to eat.

Well, one of our local EAA Chapters was the first to host a FLY-IN BREAKFAST after our long struggle with the pandemic here in PA.

Up at Mifflin County Airport (KRVL), the breakfast was ON with no real advertising except "word of mouth" which spread like wildfire around PA, NJ, and MD!

Around 75 planes and 300 people showed up! It was spectacular! So many nice planes!  The iFly helped to keep traffic seperated in the unicom only environment - thanks!
