Sorry I don't have much to add to this thread. I'm not aware of any reason the update package could not be downloaded by a phone. But if there is something easy I can change on the website to make this work, let me know.

After another few hours of thinking this through I got it workied out and updated with my Android phone this morning.

The phone will download the file but wants to save it as Default.aspx

So file name must be changed to iflyupdatepackage.zip

then the phone wants to put it in the downloads subdirectory on the sd card so you have to move up a level on the card so the Ifly will find it.

The worst part is taking the card out of the phone which involves taking the back off of it

then use the USB SD card reader to insert in Ifly and in seconds you are up to date.

With a couple practice runs I think this could be done in a couple minutes from start to finish which really makes it worthwhile when out and away from computer and/or wifi connection.

David,

Which Droid phone do you have? I have tried this with HTC Incredible. I have access to wife's Droid X. I think extracting the microSD is worth it to not have to lug around the laptop for updates while flying.

I also have the HTC Incredible. I used Astro file manager to do my file rename. I don't know what level of phone user you are but there are long taps and short taps on the keyboard to do different things. By holding your finger on the download file link (the one you would click on with your mouse) it opens a menu and at the bottom of this menu is "save link" , tap that one. This downloads it to your SD card.. But in the downloads sub-directory. It needs to be not in a subdirectory for your Ifly to find it. Also it calls the file Default.aspx so you need to use ASTRO file manager to edit/rename the file "iflyupdatepackage.zip" (it will warn you that you are changing the file extension, Do it anyway) then edit/move it up one level so it is no longer in the Downloads sub-directory. Just on the SD card. Then when you put it in the Ifly it will recognize it. Astro file manager is a free download from the app marketplace.

I just re-read this post and it sounds more complicated than it is. you can use cut and paste for the name change to save yourself from typing the file name also. It took me most of a nightshift with nothing better to do to figure this out as I was a beginner to the android phone when I got it. But after playing for a while it has gotten much easier, I had never had a phone that did more than the basics and this thing is still amazing me with what I can do.

I hope this helps you out.
David

One more data point...

I have a Droid X. If I use the Opera browser I am able to download the iFlyUpdatePackage.zip file. It winds up stored in the root directory of the SD card under the same name so there is no need to move it or to rename it. If I then connect the Droid X to the iFly with the USB cable the iFly will see the update file and will install it just fine.

If I use the default browser I have to rename and move the file as previously described.

Mike
