How hard is it to click Menu - Check for Updates? This is getting beyond rediculous.

I have two use cases:

1) Preflight. On a couch somewhere, prepping for a flight.

2) In flight. In the cockpit, ready to fly or already flying.

When I'm sitting on a couch, I don't care how long it takes to boot...but I also don't need it to automatically check charts for me, because I'm going to manually tell it to go check, so that I have the positive confirmation that I've got the latest-and-greatest data for my flight, same as checking the paper charts in my bag.

When I'm sitting in the cockpit, I want iFly to get to the moving map as quickly as possible and with as little user input as possible. If I don't have the latest charts loaded by then, there's nothing I can do about it at that point anyway. It's no different than if I didn't put the right charts in my bag before I left the house.

The last thing I want is iFly popping up one more thing for me to click "OK" on before I get to the moving map when I want the moving map.

Your mileage may vary.

If I goofed and found in the cockpit that my electronic chart wasn't current, and if I were going to fly IFR, I would stop the flight until I updated the chart. (I should do that even for VFR - especially in light of the regs.) Or I would switch to my backup tablet, which hopefully has a current chart. That is, I submit there is value in being told ahead of time that a chart isn't current,

Or, just act as a responsible PIC and make sure you are in compliance with all the requirements a PIC needs to be aware of, current charts being one.
