Two of the absolute worst areas, when trying to fly the Gulf Coast are the Houston-Galveston corridor (HA!) and getting around Corpus Christi, with it's 4 billion restricted flight areas, MOAs, ADIZ, and so on points. I do *not* wish to fly over the Gulf or any ocean. :)

Heh. Guess I don't realize how bad I have it. I live in Houston and fly around south / central / west Texas all the time...

You must have a transponder and/or flight following all the time. Lucky you.

Let me go about this a different way, and get the accumulated wisdom from the group.

Assume the worst:

1. you have a very long flight plan, with at least 5 fillups necessary to your destination.

2. a major portion of your trip is out west, where airports (and fuel) are few and far between.

3. there are lots and lots of smallish detours to avoid MOA's, B, C, and D's, and the "popup" restricted areas.

4. you sit down at your iFlyGPS to plan this flight. What would be you ideal tool setup? ...

I just read this thread out of curiosity. The initial idea seems reasonable, but my hair of curled with the scenario you propose here.

I would hate to see the iFly UI and displays compromised to any significant degree in order to accommodate such a low probability scenario. By "low probability" I mean low probability across all iFly users. I would also hate to see significant design and coding resources expended. Said another way, I think there would be so little benefit coming from designing for such an outlier that I would not like to see much cost expended to do so.

Guilty. I also drive a car when I'm on the freeway; I leave my bicycle at home for those trips. But if I insisted on riding my bicycle, I wouldn't criticize the freeway for not being bike-friendly.

I use SkyVector to do my initial flight planning. That is, if I want to do a lot of "what if" planning, etc. Input the departure and destination airports, then rubber band the rest. Once I have it figured out, it's easy to input into IFly. I also would not want to overly complicate IFly when there are already other tools available.
