it is more important in the flight planning stage.

Here is a very crude attempt at modifying the screen shot of the flight plan page (using GIMP, of all things.)

I hope this clarifies, in general, what I would like to see on the flight plan page, and maybe on the active page (at least fuel remaining) in the future:

Each third column box would indicate (estimated) fuel used so far since "fillup" and most especially estimated fuel remaining in the tank, to be calculated DURING the flight planning stages after each waypoint addition so planning the next required fuel landing is made MUCH, much easier. Pretty please?

Thanks,

David

David, I see the need here. What do you all think about simply adding a cumulative "Time and Fuel Since Last Landing" to the 2nd column?

Also what do you think of this idea: When doing a drag/drop operation on the route line we currently show a simple leg distance on the route line. We could add Cumulative Distance, Time, and Fuel to that box (Cumulative since last landing).

Thanks!
Walter

One must also consider, in the flight, that wherever we stopped to fill up, fuel simply was not available, for whatever reason.

If I understand what you mean, Walter, if we do the flight plan visually then remaining fuel/time would be a big help! That assumes you use the fuel burn rate from the aircraft profile (at average cruise, also from the profile) and some way to enter the amount of fuel actually on board during a takeoff. Would the text flight plan also show that data when you switch over to it?

Let me go about this a different way, and get the accumulated wisdom from the group.

Assume the worst:

1. you have a very long flight plan, with at least 5 fillups necessary to your destination.

2. a major portion of your trip is out west, where airports (and fuel) are few and far between.

3. there are lots and lots of smallish detours to avoid MOA's, B, C, and D's, and the <censored> "popup" restricted areas.

4. you sit down at your iFlyGPS to plan this flight. What would be you ideal tool setup? What is the easiest way to plan this flight?

iFly already has a GREAT tool in the "search for conflicting airspaces." And the new MOA altitude setttings that one can see during the plan help enormously, too. No more digging out paper charts (that you don't have the current ones or ones for that area!).

I've actually had these scenarios come up in real life.

Two of the absolute worst areas, when trying to fly the Gulf Coast are the Houston-Galveston corridor (HA!) and getting around Corpus Christi, with it's 4 billion restricted flight areas, MOAs, ADIZ, and so on points. I do *not* wish to fly over the Gulf or any ocean. :)
