iFly does have limited partial text search in that if I type in the correctly typed but incomplete airport name when I hit "Search" it will pull up several potential matches, for me to select from with one touch.
Key in PROSPECT and search finds five possible matches...including the one I want.

Google and other apps go one better such that even if text is misspelled it makes intelligent guesses as to probable misspelling of intended text and pulls up potential matches.
Essentially at minimum this ability is an on the fly spell checker function.

iPad on-the-fly entry offering to auto fill goes one further in identifying and suggesting auto-fill replacements: It not only recognizes common human misspellings but also common human keystroke errors on the query keypad ... where, for example, character that is adjacent to D (an X C F R E or S would be hit accidentally and when a credible word would appear if an D substituted for that nearby character. That is to say although "xay" is not a common misspelling for "day" iPad is smart enough to on the fly catch that slip of the finger.

When bouncing in even mild turbulence I sometimes , for example, key 3SI for intended 3S8 , as I is adjacent to 8........ Keying error rather than a misspelling as such.

As for simple misspelling , I might incorrectly enter SHADEY COVE for SHADY COVE, or CRESENT instead of the correct CRESCENT .

I'd say miskeying errors are more common than spelling errors. At least for me. But equally annoying and can distract me from flying the plane.

Right now iFly can't handle and offer , find appropriate guesses for or do auto fill for either miskeying or misspelling.
It would be nice if it could do either or both.

I'm imagining that modules of code for spellcheck and spellcheck enhanced fir keystroke errors exist and perhaps not be to labor intensive to implement .

Yes, having a "Intellisence" or "Smart Populate" is on our Wish List. We've recently re-architecture the database for the next major release, which will better allow for this. Stay tuned, this is on the development wishlist.
