Anywhere Map (anybody still remember them ?) used to have a feature whereby you would set your individual aircraft's glide ratio in the profile setup and it would dynamically display the aircraft's gliding distance over the moving map based on altitude and current winds. Of course as most of you navigation experts would figure the shape was actually more of an ellipse than a circle due to winds. And as you might figure it could not always be dead on accurate due to variables but it was none-the-less a good back pocket tool to give you an idea of where you might try to go if the engine should quit.

Randy,

Great feedback. A Safe Gliding Guidance feature is already on our wish-list. We've thought about only making it dynamic if there is current wind data from a weather download, manual entry or ads-b feed.

It's not high on the priority list, but never the less, it is something we would like to continue to develop for a future update. Stay tuned...

Great idea and yes, I had Anywhere Map on an HP Pocket PC. If I remember correctly, it would also guide you down a virtual glidepath for any runway; no ILS required.

I would love to see this feature (andriod user).

Xavion has this feature on crack currently for IOS. It autocalculates glide to each airport in range and gives a bracketed glideslope to the ideal runway dynamically updating as you fly.
