These are nice features. Now let's take it up a notch and give us the option of having them be either a 5 or 10 MINUTE rings based on current ground speed.

I like the distance rings because when I call up ATC to transition Class B or C, they want to know where and how far I am from some point.

I also like the idea of time rings. Maybe you could integrate them together.

I agree with Pielit, both would be great. Keep the distance as it is, but add time based on ground speed under the distance number.

How are you going to handle the wind factor? If the wind is sufficient, a change in heading will mess up the time if you use the current heading ground speed. - Jim

Easy - they would be dynamic and constantly updated within the algorithm. If there is a lot of rapid wind changes then you would actually see the rings grow and shrink accordingly. But then again I don't look forward to flying little airplanes too much on days like that either !
