Thanks, Mike. I somehow missed that. I tried installing the program on my notebook since that's the only computer I have that has a built in SD card port. I couldn't install the program, though. I think my IE on that computer is too old a version. Anyway, I think the iFly guys are already thinking of a new way to simpify the updating process. Guess I'll wait and see how the new method works for me. Thanks again! - Jim Williams

FWIW, it works on mine and I haven't upgraded from IE version 6.0.2900 yet.

John, to answer your original question: There is no performance benefit to deleting data from the SD card. The only time this is mandatory is for 700 users with a 4gb card, they may need to remove some data to make room for the new Terrain database. And, when we add WAC charts they will need to decide which data to drop. Or they can move everything to an 8gb card.
