I am using my iFly720 with the Clarity ADS-B and it is not maintaining connectivity. I am planning to get a different ADS-B unit and want to know who is having success with which models and/or which units have had issues. I prefer a unit that includes weather and AHARs. Thanks.

Steve,

Thanks for checking with us. We do have a small number iFly 720 working with the Clarity, however there is a connectivity issue with many of the two devices. Clarity uses a "peer-to-peer" connection and there are report of these connectivity issues on other devices as well. It is my understanding that Clarity may be looking at a firmware update, however this is not confirmed.

As for devices that play friendly with the iFly 720, below is a list and thier connectivity types.

iFly 720/700 Supported ADS-B Transceivers (Wi-Fi, USB, Serial):

  • SkyGuardTWX Vision Pro - ADS-B Transciever 978/1090 (Wi-Fi / iFly 720).
  • SkyGuardTWX Vision Pro w/ AHRS- ADS-B Transciever 978 (Wi-Fi / iFly 720).
  • NavWorx ADS600B (Serial for iFly 700/720).

iFly 720 Supported ADS-B Receivers (Wi-Fi, USB, Serial):

  • SkyGuardTWX ADS-B Receivers. (Wi-Fi).
  • iLevil SW & AW ADS-B Receiver w/ AHRS (Wi-Fi).
  • SkyRadar (Original, L Models, S Models and D Models) via Wi-Fi only or USB.
  • NavWorx (ADS-600, ADS-600B via Serial).
  • Stratus (Beta via Wi-Fi).
  • Clarity and Clarity SV (early iFly 720's w/ serial beginning FL11 are compatible via Wi-Fi).
  • FreeFlight (Ranger and Xplorer in development for Wi-Fi and Serial).

Hi Steve, Shane already covered the signal issue with the Clarity. I was watching it closely before it was shipped and really liked what I saw. I have heard about overheating issues as well with it. I saw their "fix" at Oshkosh - solar fan that straddles the unit - and quickly began looking at the alternatives. Anyway, I had issues maintaining a connection with my iLevel SW and 720. Ed at iFly helped me update my OS and it has worked great ever since. I plan on installing Dynon's ADSB for my Skyview in the next couple months, so propably will only use the iLevel sporadically, but so far, I think it is a great little unit with AHRS built in. Just one data point...

Jonathan, which device got the OS update?

I installed the latest iFly 720 update. Is there a separate OS update for the touch screen device? if that helps connectivity, I will try that before the Clarity goes back.... the Clarity is otherwise useless to me. thanks for the feedback.

Sorry, yes, it was the iFly OS that I had to update, which is different than updating to the latest software version. As per Shane's post, I do not believe the OS will have any affect on the Clarity connection issues, but it won't hurt to try. Honestly I forget the steps I had to take to get it done. I also had some issues getting it to update correctly. A quick phone call to the great folks at iFly had me good to go.
