It's the optional battery pack that requires 12 V for re-charging.

If you're in an aircraft that utilizes a 28v system but has a cigarette lighter power source, wouldn't it be 12v coming out of it? I understand if you wanted to hardwire the iFly and battery into your aircraft you'd have to figure out something to do as far as the battery (or omit it altogether if hardwired), but for a portable mount the cigarette plug should be fine for the battery - just use a multimeter to verify this before frying your battery!

Please confirm the ifly 700 will not be damaged by 9V.

It will not be damaged by 9v. But it might not work properly either - really needs to be 12 volts min to ensure all the components are working correctly.

I am using a Tekkeon MP3450i battery with my IFly 700. The battery has adjustable voltage from 5V to 19V. Below 12V, I could not get the GPS to lock-on but other functions seemed to work fine. I did not test above 12V.
