Update on my install. The iFly is asking for a driver. I called the good folks at Adventure Pilot and they are sending me a SD card to udate the firmware not just add the driver. It seems if you are an early buyer of the iFly, the unit's firmware was not up to speed driver-wise. I happy they are going to update my firmware to the latest version. I would suggest if you are an early buyer of the iFly and you are going to buy or have bought the SkyRadar, you get ahead of the game and get your unit updated so your install in not impacted by mail delivery. Guys,

I just spoke with the SkyRadar people and there are few suggestions for the getting the USB error. I have confirmed with them the driver has not changed on their device and we have not made changes to the iFly OS post SkyRadar functioning. We are testing various units with different OS versions to confirm OS and Dirver compatibility. With that said, the Unrecognizable USD Device error can be caused by several things. Below are a few that Skyradar advised of.

Incorrect Mini USB cable being used. It needs a 5 Pin Mini USB cable. If you are using a cable from camera or cell phone, it may be a specialized cable that is not compatible. SkyRadar said they will be putting a cable on thier store shortly.
Defective or damaged SkyRadar USB port. This can be detected by plugging the SkyRadar into a Windows 7 PC, while connected to the internet. If it finds and loads the driver fine, there is no issue. If you get an error or message stating a driver was not found or unrecognized usb device, this is a sign the SkyRadar USB port is defective. SkyRadar indicated they have seen a few of these, though the issue is sparse.
We know serial numbers beginning with MB9C will need a OS Flash. I your serial number starts with MB9C, please contact us at 888-200-5129 o we can send out a SD card to flash your device and then return that OS SD card to us.

We are receiving a current model to confirm connectivity on the latest model as well. We do not suspect an issue here as there has been no USB driver / port changes on the iFly or SkyRadar and it's working on several iFly devices out there. We will continue to test and keep you posted on possible resolutions.

Shane,

I did the Windows 7 USB test as described, and it found and loaded the FT232RUSB UART driver. Does this also eliminate any problem with the USB cable as well?

No. It just eliminates the USB port of the SkyRadar. The proper cable is needed to ensure complete data traffic being passed to the correct pins.

Can you, please, clarify the USB cable requirement, so we know the exact type of cable needed, instead of "buy and try" method?

Is this a USB 1.0 or USB 2.0 interface we are talking here?

If we look at the pin out of the Series A Plug to Series Mini-B pug cable: we see that there are 4 wires: V bus/ground for power & D+/D- for differential serial communication signal.
Since both devices have their own internal power supplies, Vbus and Ground wires are not a concern here.

D+ and D- is a serial communication pair between two devices. So to David's comment, if PC identified the SkyRadar device and located correct drives to communicate to it, would this indicate that the cable communication part is ok too?

Otherwise, what kind of sorcery can we expect from SkyRadar bought and hand delivered USB cable?
