I've been trying to download the current set of updates since last night via wireless. I've tried loading all of the updates at once and individual updates. It chokes consistently half way through the Avaiation Databases. If I try the Cincinnati Sectional or any of hte WAC updates by themselves it chokes on that as well. In all cases I get a red error box reporting a download problem. All I've been able to successfully download via wireless is the TFRs and the CO Airports.

I'm running the online update via my PC now. However, if I were sitting in a pilots lounge trying to obtain a current sectional update via the wireless option prior to a flight, I would be pissed.

Suggested improvement: If doing a mass update and one file fails to download, move on to the next one. Either come back to the failed file later or issue an update summary at the end that reports "x number of updates failed, please try again".

Hi Bruce,

Sorry for the delay responding, and I'm sorry you are having this problem. Sometimes, if you have multiple wireless networks configured, your iFly will briefly drop a connection and try to connect to the other network, before switching back. If you are downloading a large file, you may see what you describe here. Try looking for other WiFi networks in your WiFi settings page (they will be listed with <PRE> next to the name), and delete these connections.

If this does not clear up your problem, please call our help desk for some additional troubleshooting.

Thanks,
Walter

The iFly has two wifi networks programmed, my home and my office. Both networks are strong and fast. The iFly is not being moved around when downloading, so signal integrity is good. I suggest some improvements to the onboard file download manager. Taking away valid network entries is not a good solution.

The USB flash drive and SD card update options are excellent alternatives and I applaud their inclusion. They simply are not convenient when trying to update a chart at the last minute at an airport.

Bruce, I totally agree, and this is on our todo list. Removing the network is a workaround until we have a better solution. I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Walter
