Walter,

Would you please give an update on the status of the effort to resolve the wifi issue with the Clarity SV. I posed that question last week to Shane and he did not respond.

tks

Greetings Walter,

I am also interested in a resolve to the situation. I have had some discussion with Clarity and they defer updates to AP for correction to the issue. I continue to have the AHRS drop out after awhilein the air and it seems to effect the ADS-B portion as well.

My last communication from Sagetech (yesterday) told me that in order to change the wifi protocol my Clarity SV would need to be sent back and reprogrammed. I am not confident that this is the best course of action but would entertain this if AP thinks it would solve the problem. i need further understanding from Sagetech on what they would do prior to releasing my system for the update.

Thanks in advance for the reply.

Paul

Hi dogbreth and Paul,

We're still working on this problem. The root issue is an obscure incompatibility with the WiFi connection the Clarity uses. Specifically, they are exposing the device as a peer-to-peer network instead of the more traditional Access Point method. (not that there's anything wrong with that). I think the bug may be on the iFly side, but hard to tell. We're working with the WiFi chipset provider in our 720 units to try and debug the issue and provide us a new firmware that will correct the problem, but so far the issue is elusive. If Sagetech can simply change the config on their WiFi to "Access Point", that would probably fix the problem quicker.

I will touch base with Clarity on this issue again, see if that is what they intended with their firmware update.

Thanks,

Walter

P.S. I moved this post to iFly Owners

Walter,

Thanks for your update. If I understand you correctly, you are not conceding that there is something wrong with the Ifly but simply a difference in the protocol for the Clarity vs the Ifly. Either party may be able to cure the problem. Apparently Clarity is giving Paul different information than they are giving me. This concept of sending back the clarity and have them update their software is a new twist that they have not told me. If they do this, then those of us who were dumb enough to buy the clarity may have a product that must be shielded from the sun (don't put it on your dash), jerry rig up a small fan to keep it cool to get the same information that the smarter guys got for a lot less money. I bought the Clarity because I believed their advertising that they had the best product on the market

Paul, you and I need to continue double teaming Lindsey at Clarity to try to get the truth.... I want my money back

Walter..I suggest leaving this thread on the "general discussion" page. Only Ifly owners can access the Q&A. If someone not yet an owner were considering the Ifly and the Clarity, they would appreciate the problems between the two before buying the Clarity

Dogbreth,

I tried to return my Clarity SV (I did receive one of the first shipped due to me not cancelling my order when they pushed the delivery date out). But I was told about the 30 day return policy. Ok with that behind me I tried to find a way to make this device operational in my bird!

I am a repeat customer/user/beta person for AP. My first iFly700(bought 3 years ago) is now working in a '59 Bellanca, and my 720 runs in my '64 Comanche 250. Both systems have worked everytime without fail, and with iFly Connect I can upload all the charts and plates as required.

All that said, my conversations with Sagetech have been somewhat frustrating. I did procure the window mount per their suggestion and it did eliminate the thermal shut downs I had been experiencing. However, with the wifi issues I still am not certain that I have good reliable weather and AHRS data.

Here's the reply I received earlier this week when questioning about the wifi protocol issue.

"Glad to hear the window mount has improved your user experienced and reduced the temperature of the unit. You are correct in saying we use a peer to peer ad-hoc WiFi connection. To change this the unit would need to be reconfigured and units we already sent out would need to be sent back according to our engineers. In our software development kit that we send out to the EFB’s that want to be compatible with us the WiFi connection we use is stated. Once we hear from the EFB that they are compatible we update our records as such. Unfortunately it looks like the gun was jumped, we have changed compatibility with the iFy 720 to pending but as you know they are working hard to resolve this. Stay in touch."

So I think they are willing to work with us. I am sending an email to request the update to see if this is possible.

Stay tuned...........more to follow...........

Paul
