Hey Dogbreath: I read this owner report on the Clarity SV web site. I edited it down a little to remove some comments not related to your suspected heat problem (...). The report: "Recommended By TD_Florida | April 13 2013 8:01 PM
It was an 85 degree afternoon in Florida when I first tested my new Clarity SV. Sitting up on the dash in the gelpad holder, my 20 minute test flight allowed me to make several observations that I did not expect. I had been looking forward to having ADS-B traffic on my Ipad using WingX. To my surprise it was like information overload and mass confusion. ... Certainly the software will need lots of tinkering to make the traffic data useful.
The AHRS worked flawlessly. Never needed to reset it from the start. It was smooth and accurate.
After landing I noticed that the Clarity seemed to quit working. So I did some investigating after engine shutdown only to discover that the unit was so hot that I could not hold my hand on it. I determined that some sort of thermal cutoff had been activated because the WiFi was refusing to connect. I shut the Clarity off for a 5 min. cool down. When I restarted, everything worked correctly again. In my opinion there is going to be lots of problems with this unit on hot summer days. On my next flight, I am going to mount the Clarity in the suction holder, and allow the air vent to blow cool air on it, and I hope to see it not get so hot.
In summary, I can say that I am happy to be on the leading edge of technology, but I recognize there are lots of things that need to be improved."
Just passing this info along for what it's worth. Again, it came from the Clarity-SV web site. ===Ralph

Ralph, tks for your response.... one point I noticed is that for the first 20 minutes, the other pilot reported no problem...there must be something with~20 min...taking that long to heat up. Today I will be flying home commercial from TUL. I plan to remove the module from the rubber support mat and try again. Perhaps the heat will conduct away better without being insulated by the rubber housing....

If this is a temperature problem, I'm not sure what can be done about it.... I plan to contact Sagetech to determine their return policy. $1400 is a lot of money for a device that still has significant problems

There is definitely a Temperature issue with the Clarity. I believe they are working on a solution that will be available to send out. We are also working with our Wireless Adapter supplier on a improved connection as well. What is interesting is that the ADS-B stays connected, yet the AHRS is the only thing that drops. We should have a little more information from both Clarity and our factory this week. Thanks again for all the great information and details as this really helps isolate this issue.

Shane,

I am also very interested in a solution to the issues between the Clarity SV and the iFly 720. I have been fighting loss of AHRS and power down down issues since first receiving my SV. I am about ready to get a refund on the SV and return it unless we can get it to perform as specified. It serves no purpose for me (I fly IFR and really wanted the NexGen weather more than the traffic reports).

I am looking to here how the Stratus 2 works with the iFly 720 (which is an amazing flight tool by itself).

Paul

The response from Clarity:

The WiFi connection issue with iFly 720 was something we just found out about last week, it sounds like the Adventure Pilot team knew about it and are working hard to get it resolved on their end.

Shane--Clarity wants to blame iFly 720.... have you determined whether this is an iFly problem or Clarity problem. Do you have a "fix" in the works as Clarity suggests?
