Hey Dogbreath: I read this owner report on the Clarity SV web site. I edited it down a little to remove some comments not related to your suspected heat problem (...). The report: "Recommended By TD_Florida | April 13 2013 8:01 PM
It was an 85 degree afternoon in Florida when I first tested my new Clarity SV. Sitting up on the dash in the gelpad holder, my 20 minute test flight allowed me to make several observations that I did not expect. I had been looking forward to having ADS-B traffic on my Ipad using WingX. To my surprise it was like information overload and mass confusion. ... Certainly the software will need lots of tinkering to make the traffic data useful.
The AHRS worked flawlessly. Never needed to reset it from the start. It was smooth and accurate.
After landing I noticed that the Clarity seemed to quit working. So I did some investigating after engine shutdown only to discover that the unit was so hot that I could not hold my hand on it. I determined that some sort of thermal cutoff had been activated because the WiFi was refusing to connect. I shut the Clarity off for a 5 min. cool down. When I restarted, everything worked correctly again. In my opinion there is going to be lots of problems with this unit on hot summer days. On my next flight, I am going to mount the Clarity in the suction holder, and allow the air vent to blow cool air on it, and I hope to see it not get so hot.
In summary, I can say that I am happy to be on the leading edge of technology, but I recognize there are lots of things that need to be improved."
Just passing this info along for what it's worth. Again, it came from the Clarity-SV web site. ===Ralph
