I entered a private strip that is not located on a sectional. I used GPS coordinates (decimal) and gave it a name. It shows up on my iFly 720 sectional map with the name I gave it in a white box with a pointer to the location. So far so good. When I try a enter a flight plan from my home airport to this private strip, I get a message that says "No results found that match search criteria." In the flight planning page I have checked 'Find Airports' and 'Find Custom Waypoints'. I have triple checked the spelling and the spaces and the unit simply isn't finding the way point I entered by name.

As a work around I can tap a point near where the airport is located and fly drect to that point. That isn't very elegant but it works. My question is should the 720 recognize user waypoints in a flight plan? If not, what does "Find Custom Waypoints" do in the flight planning section.

Don: Yes, searching for custom waypoints works - it always has on my 720. Did you also check "Full Text" search box as well as "Find Custom Waypoints" box? Both boxes need to be checked. The "Full Text" search box is on the lower left side of the screen. ====Ralph

Full Text wasn't checked. I checked it and Find User Waypoints. No joy. I double checked for a spelling error. No joy. I triple checked, still no joy. I'm stumped.

Don: I don't know what else to tell you. I am stumped, too. I have tried this many times on my 720 running ver 7.6.7 and it works every time, even if I have the "Display Custom Waypoints" turned off. I fired up my 720 and just verified it. Using the "Find Airport" button, "Modify Search", then I check "Perform full text search (slower)" and check "Find custom waypoints." Then I type the first few letters (or all) of the name, touch "Search" and it displays the custom waypoint location on the screen map. Also, I can enter a custom waypoint into a flight plan: "Flight Plan", "Add Waypoint", then follow the same procedures to check the full text button and "Find Custom Waypoints", press "Search" and it places my waypoint into the flight plan. Don't know why it is not working for you. Sorry I could not be more help. Perhaps try giving your custom waypoint a shorter name without spaces in it. ===Ralph.
