Or lack thereof. I personally have not ever seen any traffic on my iFly 720/Skyradar combination . I have 3 other close friends that don't see traffic. I read posts here from people who don't see traffic with SkyRadar/iFly 720 combo.

Shane, or somebody from Adventure Pilot, what's the secret. You say it works, but what does it take to make it work? I'm getting real frustrated. I know my SkyRadar is working because I get traffic on my EFIS and iPad when WingX is working. I'm ADSb out and everybody sees me, and I see me.

i have the latest software versions. My IFly is brand new.

HELP

I just got a note from Alexey, CEO of Radena, and he's wondering if the iFly 720 can decode ADSB 1090MHz plus the 978 band. He's thinking that my extended squitter is transmitting a 1090 signal and that's what is getting sent out when I ping the station and if the iFly can't decode 1090mhz then it wouldn't be able to show anything.

does the 720 have the capability to decode 1090mhz, and does this make sense to you guys that really know how these things work?

also, the Trig asks if a 1090 receiver is installed. I'll tell it no and see how that affects the iFly and my GRT. I'm suspecting if I tell it no that I won't then see airline type traffic. I'll report back.

still searching

Jim,

I've asked Alexey for a D2 model to retest. We no longer have one of the dual band units here from SkyRadar. We have several other dual band units from other makers and we are seeing the 1090 traffic on those. I was talking with Walter and he said he thinks SkyRadar is doing something different with the 1090 decoding, basically different than the standard GDL90 protocol. Once we get the D2 from Alexi, we'll see what is going on.

You are correct in that the ADS-B out should wake up the tower. If you are in range of the 978 ground tower and your "out" device has triggered it, you should be seeing both 978 and 1090 traffic in your service volume via the ground signal. The way to tell is if you see a callsign or tail number on that traffic, it is direct air to air. If the tail number is a N number it's most likely oui out. If it is AA or UA or commercial, then you can bet it's 1090.

We will get this worked out and thanks for your help with this.

I sure like to know what the solution to this is. I recently purchased the SkyRadar-L and never see any traffic on it. Yet, doing a pile of IFR pattern work, there is traffic all over the place. I checked with Adventure Pilot and you guys told me the SkyRadar-L was perhaps the best unit to use with the Ifly700. What's up?

I did some more research and it seems the bottom line on traffic with ADS-B is to have an ADS-B OUT unit. The Skyradar-L ADS-B IN unit (or any other 'IN' unit) will only pick up traffic aircraft to aircraft if the other aircraft has ADS-B out.

I sort of figured on this and the difference in price for ADS-B in vs out. But was hoping for better. Ultimately, I have the Ifly700 for the plates, weather, low altitude routes, and sectionals. Taxi diagrams are very nice. Wish the obstruction avoidance was better.
