I tried to connect my 720 to a friend's Stratus type #1 yesterday without success. The WiFi connection worked fine. The iFly 720 said it had a solid WiFi connection to the Stratus. But when I launched the Navigation app, the Weather indicator remained in (Pre-flight). I expected to see it read Weather (ADSB, on-line idle or on-line no data). I even had set "< AdsbUdpPort >41502< /AdsbUdpPort >" in the User/Settings.xml file per instructions on the forum. I notice, however, that settings.xml also has a line "< WifiDevice >SkyRadar< /WifiDevice>". Should this also be changed, perhaps to Stratus, too? Is there an easier way to select which ADS-B device is connected other than modifying the user/settings.xml file?

Hi Ralph,

If the iFly 720 is running the latest software, you should be able to connect the two via Wi-Fi and tap Menu -> About -> Connected Devices and select the Stratus (beta) from the Wi-Fi Ports list. Below are a couple of things to check, just to be sure it is connected.

In the Set Up page, make sure you disconnect from any "PRE" networks. Then let the list refresh and connect to the Stratus...tap the IP setting and confirm you are getting numbers in the IP address and the Subnet Mask boxes. If not, you might make sure it is set to DCHP at the top of the page and start over. Some of the older SkyRadar's used Static and we just want to make sure this is not carried over from a prior config or selected by accident.

Once you are getting the IP address and Subnet populated, then you should be able to enter into the Nav and check whether you see Weather Pre-Flight or ADS-B in the Modes. Give it about 30 seconds to a minute to make the handshake, just to be sure.

With the newer software, I don't think it is necessary to change the settings.xml file any longer. Once the two units are connected and talking, you should see the Weather change from Pre-Flight to ADS-B Live, No Data or Idle. Then you likely just need some Altitude. I hope this helps.

Cobra: Thanks for your helpful suggestions. As you can see above, it was my fault for looking for the Stratus in the wrong place in the Nav application menus. Actually, this particular Stratus box has actually seen/received ADS-B data on the ground in this location at KCMH. The ADS-B broadcast tower was in sight, so I expected to seen an ADSB indication of one sort or another during this test with the iFly connected instead of Foreflight on an iPad. Now that I know how to select the Stratus in Nav mode I'll give it another try. The Stratus-2nd gen gives the same functionality as the Clarity-SV for about half the price, so I wanted to check out the 1st gen box that a friend owns before I purchase anything (you can pick one of these up fairly cheep on the used market). ===Ralph
