Yep, I changed settings to allow "install unknown apps" from the Google files app and retried the install. It worked from the files app correctly.

Glad you got it working.  I initially looked for the "install unknown apps" option in the Google Files app permissions, but there is no such option for that app on my phone (Samsung S21 Ultra), which is why I ended up using Total Commander.

No Joy. I see no improvement in this release.  GPS Tracking still a big problem for Pixel 3aXL.

I tested it while driving down the road and the behavior was strange.  Very weak GPS...usually 1 sometimes 2 bars.  Location only updated every 5-10 secs...but sometimes took as long at 15-20 secs to update.  During a significant portion of my drive the airplane position was moving the correct direction but the airplane icon was facing the opposite direction from what it was moving.  A couple of minutes later it started facing the correct direction.  All other gps enabled apps work great, no tracking issues noted.

Here's a link to a screenshot I took. https://photos.app.goo.gl/dnWSCqSmTitU2oeS8

At the time I took the screenshiot, I was doing about 65mph going NNE.  Note that the airplane is facing the opposite direction (209 degrees) than my travel and the airspeed is showing 0 kts.

Bottom line,..unusable.

All:

Just road tested my installation this afternoon. Same result (actually not as good) as Chad's. All known required settings correct. Battery saver turned off. Unlimited battery acces for iFly turned on. Moving map turned on. Drove to store 12 miles away due East and back due West. Plane icon never moved or changed indicated direction. Speed never moved off zero. GPS reception a 1 bar at best and at ofter times none. Tried it with and without a flight plan loaded. All other GPS-using apps running great. I still notice that the location icon never is shown in the notification bar for iFly.

Result: Unsubscribe new phone and re-subscribe old phone for dedicated iFly backup until this is fixed.

Best, John

From your descriptions, it sounds like the location fix being passed from Android to iFly is the "low accuracy" solution, which is not GPS-based, but rather based on Google's awareness of wifi network locations and other gross-level location cues.  It's weird that this problem seems to be unique to Pixel devices.

Any chance you might have some sort of "battery saver" mode engaged that could be restricting use of the GPS receiver by some apps?

Also, check your app settings for iFly and confirm that Location is set to either "Allow all the time" or "Allow only while using the app", and that "Use precise location" is selected (slider is to the right).

Looking at the Log file I'm given the impression that iFly is for some unknown reason losing its connection to the Location API (that is, the location information is NOT being passed to iFLY consistantly). I can run Google Maps and GPS Reset apps concurently with iFLY and they report my position, direction and speed instantly with no delays. They also report strong signal locks while iFly indicates weak or no GPS signal. I know other phone makers are having GPS problems with Android 12 also but the Pixels are certainly standing out in this thread. Again, I notice that the location icon in the notification/status bar never shows when iFly is running. My older phone running Android 10 never misses a beat with iFLY (and always shows the Location icon.) Just seems strange.

I've tried it with battery saver on and off. No diference. I have also given iFly unlimited access permission to the Battery and Location.

Yep, I've confirmed Location is set to "Allow all the time" and "Precise Location" is selected.

Thanks for the thoughts on this Cobra. Hoping the iFly team can get back on this after the weekend.  Best, John
