When I experimented with the suction-cup mount to find the best placement in my Cessna 150, I discovered the no matter where I placed the iFly 700, (even in my lap), I was getting a 30 degree deflection on my magnetic compass when I powered up the iFly. As I know that other moving map GPS units are panel mounted right below the compass, I am wondering why my unit causes this behavior and what I should do about. First though of some shielding will likely effect satellite reception. Please help with some i nstallation suggestions / instructions.

Are you using the external antenna? It has a strong magnet in its base and can affect a compass quite dramatically.

Thanks much for your reply, Jim. No, I'm not using an external antenna. It is just theiFly 700 power that is causing the problem. I take it that yours does not do this.

Does the compass variation happen when the unit is on or off, or both. By off, I mean unplugged.

I have never had an issue with my iFly 720 and the compass. I have however set my ipad on the glare shield and the compass swung about 90 degrees.

So far no issues with the ifly. The only magnet I can think of would be the speaker.
