Even more annoying than the sound of vocal traffic alerts is the sound of your aircraft merging with another in the air. I can't unhear that sound after 5 years.

Yow! That didn't quite register on me the first time I read it.

John: the time between my posting my request for a filter on verbal traffic alerts and you conflating that with the sound of a mid-air collision was 19 days.  That seemed like a very delayed response.  That's all I was saying.

But, since you've brought it up again: I don't think being overrun with verbal warnings about traffic is a gain in safety.  I think appropriate verbal warnings would be.  I support what you're asking for.  But I'm saying that I don't want to get shoutouts about traffic that's not close to me, or is heading away from me, or is behind me (unless it's gaining on me).  It's anti-safety to have iFly filling my headphones with unncecessary warnings that could conflict with ATC, tower, or CTAF communications.

FWIW, while on some forums that might be true, there are a large number of "regular" users here who have been participating for years, but who only log in once every few weeks or months, so it doesn't seem particularly unusual to me.

Agreed.  But in that 19 day period he posted 3 other times before his post about the sound of mid-air collision (as a reply to my post). So, he was on the forum.

I wasn't trying to make anything of it, though I did think it was somewhat peculiar therefore I mentioned it.  Maybe I was poking a little fun, but not trying to be mean.  I'll reiterate that I do support his request.

I'm Out.

Will check in occasionally to see if any progress has been made on "near-by" traffic alerts."

LATER: Just got this from a friend using ForeFlight.

Verbal traffic is given.....

"When traffic is within 1.8 nm and +/- 1200 GPS altitude of your aircraft's position while connected to an ADSB in/out system. Ownship must be able to be detected to work.

Only trouble is ForeFlight is not available for Android. So I guess I'll have to buy an ipad.
