Hi,

I've been using the 740b for over a year now and I still get very frustrated when trying to move the map with my finger(s) by 'sweeping'. Almost every time I try, whether I use one or two fingers, the map moves a little bit in a jerky manner and then a detailed info box appears with the lat/lon of the point the GPS thinks I was selecting. This info box covers a large portion of the map and I have to then close the detailed info box and try again. I almost never get the map to move where I want and sometimes, it zooms out and moves far away from my route. I can't even get it to work when I'm sitting in my chair at home so it's hopeless in flight. I've tried one finger and two fingers and slow, steady moves or quicker movements but I haven't figured out a method that works. Does anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,

Steve

Sounds like you may need to try reload the latest software, if you haven't done that in a while. Mine moves map as you would think and a continuous or longer touch will bring up the data box. Just a first guess.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply! I just updated the unit but I've never done a 'reload' of the software and I can't find the term 'reload' in the forum. Do you know how to do that?

Actually reload of the sfotware probably is not needed.  It's a resistive touch screen so works different than your phone.  A light touch with a big finger will cause what you are describing - use just one finger, and try pressing just a little harder.  Or, flip you hand over and use your fingernail - gives a more accurate touch and glides easier.

Hi,

Thanks! The 'fingernail' approach is very nice! That works really well.  And, YES, pressing harder with only one finger tip helps a lot! Also, with either approach, if I wait a moment before moving, I get a red circle of dots under my finger that will eventually turn green. If I move while the dots are red or green, it works well. If I wait until the dots turn green and then remove my finger (without moving it) I get a list of Options related to the point my finger was on. But, I can't find any reference to this feature (circle of red dots become green) in the manual. Is the "circle of dots" feature related to something else that I'm not getting?

Thanks, again

Steve
