Guys: I think the request might have been more clear if instead of Tower Frequency, he had used controlling agency freq. Hey, let's all give the each other a break here, instead of piling on maybe a helpful hint or two for clarity. Must be a bad moon rising. Dan

There is no piling on. We are discussion possible enhancements to iFly GPS and the pros and cons of said enhancements. That is partly how AP makes a decision on which ones to pursue.

When entering class C the pilot must make radio contact with approach control before entering. Normally that happens when about 20 miles outside the class C. When entering class B, the pilot must receive a CLEARANCE to enter from approach control. A control tower has authority over the class D only. Class D is generally a 5 NM radius from ground level to 2500 AGL around the tower controlled airport. If the airport in within a class C airspace, approach control is the controlling authority for the surrounding and overlying class C. This is per the FAR's/CFR's.

Don,

Yes, this is a feature that is currently on our wish-list and has come up for consideration. I personally would like to see the Freq in the text alert, just as reference. Many years ago, I used Airmap and Bendix King and they prompted a Freq on an Airspace alert.

This is the age old debate of what freq to list, the above noted showed the Tower Freq in most cases. Class B airports where the exception, as many have multiple towers. I know Brian and Walter are looking at the databases and samples to determine the best practice for showing CT, Approach, Center Freqs, etc. There is no clear defined database to their understanding.

We'll get it cleared up and I'm confident it will be added in the future, I just can't set a time frame at this point.

Shane, I can guarantee you that if you get an airspace alert for class B or class C, it is NOT the tower frequency you need. If you want to pop up a frequency, it is the approach control frequency that needs to be shown. The ONLY time you would want to see the tower frequency is if you get an airspace alert for class D airspace that is not within class B or C or you are within class B or C and are talking to approach control and have been told to contact the tower, and they are going to tell you the frequency for the tower.

How about:

Class A: The center frequency from the appropriate IFR chart.

Class B: The ATIS frequency for the controlling facility.

Class C: The ATIS frequency for the controlling facility.

Class D: Tower frequency.

SUA's: Frequency for the controlling facility from the appropriate Chart.
