Are you working with Bad Elf for app compatibility? Nothing against other vendors but $500 - $1,000+ receivers are a bit too much for me to justify. They are putting out a sub $300 device. Will it work with Android and/or the 720?

Daniel,

I know the guys over at Bad Elf pretty well. We will be begin adding their Bad Elf Compatibility when we can get a development device to test. I've actually be working with them to potentially sell their products on our store. Should be a very interesting release as they make great products. Their Bad Elf Pro line will work with the Android, so at this time, I cannot see why not. We'll grab the GPS position from the ADS-B feed. Stay tuned.

Thanks, Shane. Glad to hear this update from you.

The Bad Elf ADS-B is and will be the most affordable units on the market. It will enable most, if not all GA pilots to be ADS-B compliant by 2020. John

The first statement may be true. The second may also, but not with the device they're currently showing pictures of:

No portable unit like that is going to achieve FAA certification to satisfy 2020 requirements.

John,

The Bad Elf is a receiver only project at this time. Keep in mind the 2020 Mandate is for ADS-B Out. The Out is what sends your position to ATC and will be the new additional layer of transponders. The ability to receive traffic and weather to your aircraft is not part of that mandate. If you need meet the FAA 2020 Compliancy, we are compatible with FreeFlight, Lynx, NavWorx, SkyGuardTWX(exp/lsa only for now) transceivers and more coming online. Feel free to call me and we can discuss your specific ADS-B needs.
