I just received my Ping Buddy today in the mail and there is a card referring me to the web site for uAvionox.com but there are no instructions on the web site. Perhaps someone here can answer my questions.

1) Does the device have to actually see out side or can it just hang on the cable provided?

2) Do the two small wire have to be extended and held in position?

3) If it has to be attached to a window, what is the recommended method?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Jim Mantyla

The two small wires are the antenna and should be extended.  They should be mounted in a vertical orientation.

Thaks Tim,

Another question i have:

When it is plugged into my 740 and i look at connected devices the Ping Buddy does not show up on the list. The red light inside the Ping Buddy does pulse but i would have thought that it would show up as being connected. There are no heart beats listed.

Is there something els i should be doing?

Regards,

Jim

I don't have a 740, so it might behave differently, but on the 700 and 720, you establish the wifi connections from the Setup screen before you launch the Navigation software.  Have you done that first?

Once you've connected to the Ping Buddy network there, you can launch the Navigation (iFly) software, and then it should show up in the Connected Devices list.  Then, on subsequent startups you can just go straight into the Navigation software, and the device will reconnect with the Ping Buddy in the background and be ready to go by the time the iFly software finishes startup.

Hey Jim,

Mine connects to my 740 via the USB cable only.  The Ping unit I have (recently purchased from iFly) does not appear to have any wifi capability.  It does not show up on the 740's wifi page.

I've only used it at the house, but sitting near a door it seemed to have no problem tracking aircraft overhead. Pretty cool, actually.  Since my house is inside the DC SFRA (the nation's capitol restricted airspace) I had plenty of "targets" passing by.  BTW:  It also plugged in and worked fine with my old 700.

I plan to stick in the top part of my windshield as soon as I can get out and go fly (velcro?).   I bought a USB cable on Amazon that has two 90-degree connectors so that I can snake that cable around the canopy bow.  That's as far as I've gotten with it.

Cheers
