Yoke Mount with Tab-Time cradle for me. It works with multiple sized devices. The X-mount cradles do also.

As long as they're fairly close in size.  My 7" tablet wouldn't fit in the 8" X-mount tablet I bought for my 8" tablet.  A 10" tablet I wanted to try wouldn't fit in the X-mount for the 8" tablet, either, and the larger X-mount to fit the 10" tablet is too big for the 8"....

Has anyone else noticed these mounts being loose?  I verified that mine is sliding on all the way, but it's fairly loose, and in fact the GPS actually fell off the panel and into my lap during a fairly rough attempt at a hot start.  I have it in portrait mode, which makes it worse, but I don't really have much confidence in the mounting security.

I've got a VBox Sport (automotive GPS datalogger) with the same "Richter" mount, and it fits really tight.  I tested the RAM mount from iFly with the VBox GPS, and it was also really tight. In fact, it was so tight I never pushed it hard enough to get it to snap in place.  That would make me think maybe the slots in the back of the 740b are a little larger than ideal.  Next time I'm at the hangar, I'll try to remember to try the 740b with the VBox mount to see if that's loose also.

Double post.  Forum unavailable message on the first attempt, but it seems to have gone through anyway.

I use the 740b in portrait mode also.  Haven't had any problem with the slide in ball  mount with the ram clamp so far.  Maybe a piece of tape in the correct place would get a better click into the slide and  tighten up thinks.  My slide does fit fairly tight.  I do agree the  screw mount  on the 720 was a bit  more robust and  I never had any problem with it .   I actually mentally  questioned the slide mount when the 740b arrived and thought about  placing a spot of thermal glue in the correct place,  I never seem to use it without the  ball attached anyway..  But , I'm still new with the 740b .

Just to make sure, did you see Walter's post a couple above yours?  I don't have a 740 so am not familiar with it's ball mount, but Walter says it should click when fully seated and not be loose, but that the mechanism is tight enough that it can be tough to get that full engagement when new:

Kevin,

Place your thumbs on the bottom of the mount and firmly push up - you should get a solid click when it seats.  Shouldn't be loose, in fact the new mount can sometimes be very tight at first so it's not really getting fully locked.
