Dick,

They are restoring it right now! It is still a wonderful airport.  My daughter goes to college there now, so I have plenty of good reasons to frequent it.

Weather does get a bit nasty up there, so need to be careful over "Hell's Highway" as the old airmail pilots used to say...some of them went down in those mountains and were never found...rough country!  I fly airport to airport just in case!

Mike, one thing I forgot to mention, I use my Windows computer to download the latest Stratux software file and to update my Stratux.  After downloading the file, disconnect your computer WIFI from your home router and connect to your Stratux.  Use your browser (I use Chrome) and go to 192.168.10.1 where you will see the Stratux program Menu.  After you update the file, you will also calibrate your Stratux by placing it on a flat surface and pushing a button.  You will also point one end of the Stratux toward the sky and push a button, so the Stratux knows which end you will point toward the nose of your airplane.

This is all very simple and should not be a problem.

While playing with the Stratux at home and testing with iFly, if you raise and lower one end or one side of your Stratux, you will see the EFIS show a climb, descent, and turn.  Your altitude will show the actual MSL altitude of where ever you are located if you put the pressure altitude instrument on your iFly display.

OK, will retrieve my hardware this weekend from the plane so we can try this - thank you very much. I appreciate the help -- I know it is sometimes difficulty to work with novice computer folks like me.  Regards, Mike

Michael:

A great read...Jimmy Stewart: Bomber Pilot. Available on Kindle. Met him one while I was in High School.

His dad had a hardware store in Indiana and there is a Jimmy Stewart Museum.

Went from a private to a Brigadier General.

John,

Thanks for the great tip - I have read that book and was astonished at the level of humility Jimmy Stewart had during his USAF and Hollywood career....

He had to FIGHT the administration of the Army Air Corps to get into combat - he did not want to be protected...and took on one of the most dangerous jobs in WW II.

Bomber Pilot Group Commander and Formation Lead! The enemy would purposely attack the lead ship to break up the formation, and we all know the B-24 was not a plane to take a whole lot of damage...it is amazing he survived the war!

Thanks John!

As Gomer Pyle would say...

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise...

I went to install both AHRS and an additional GPS antenna (GPYES) for my STRATUX from IFly today....and when I opened the box...BOTH were already installed!

I was wondering HOW I got such good results flying synthetic vision in the mountains the other day! Amazing - I had it the whole time.

Now I just have to wonder if I have the right SOFTWARE to run it?  That is where I am now with the process.

Again, THANK YOU to all you guys helping me become smarter and better at managing/improving this system.

Mike in Carlisle, N714AJ

So, what do I do with the AHRS chip and GYYES? Keep them as backups?
