I think that on a future device,a pass-thru power plug would greatly simplify the wiring in the cockpit, as most devices coming in the market are 12v ,so you could piggy-back devices. good- by cigarettes lighters spliters adaptor, the best would be an adaptor with 3 or 4 ,3.5mm plugs, and or usb power ports combination, what do you think??

I'd rather see the resources go into an internal (and replaceable) battery. Design it so you can run ship power to the unit without damaging battery. Another factor is weight. A lighter, and perhaps thinner unit would be more beneficial. This probably means limited battery run times but if you could get at least an hr. it would be sufficient.

The current setup of having the external battery works but is cumbersome. Last thing I would want are more wires running to/from the iFly.

Quite right Dave. I have what seems like wires everywhere. I don't have much room, I had to place the battery on the passenger side panel. I'll have to find another setup for it now the the temps in Phoenix are getting better.

I have wires running for the iPhone power and GPS antenna, aprs tracker power and GPS antenna, iFly battery power and GPS antenna.

I'll be installing another cig lighter for the tracker and iPhone in the cargo area in the near future just to move the wires out of the way.

I was just trying to figure a way to get rid of the huge 2-3 and four cigarettes lighter adaptor at the panel, the other way to do it would be to have a battery powerful enough to power 2 or 3 devices while plugged to the 12 v adaptor and recharging, I would love to have an internal battery in each device, but the problem remain, each will need a separate wire running to the huge Multi-plugs at the cigarette lighter, I think the technology to make lighter thinner internal bateries is expensive, and anyway you still, will have the problem of the batteries depleting at a different rate, the Ideal would be a new device, with built-in ADS-B , Wi-Fi and battery, but this would be defeating the low cost of the original intented by IFLY.

thank you for your replies

As you work through your personal solutions, bear in mind that any external battery that remains attached to the aircraft's electrical system after shutdown will potentially energize the aircraft's electrical system, regardless of the position of the master switch. I too am working on putting my SkyRadar unit on the hat rack in back, powered by its own small 12v battery that in turn is charged by a connection to the aircraft electrical system in flight. A Schottky diode (basically a "one way only" path) between the aircraft system and the small battery may solve the problem, but the thought of a hot mag (and an FAA ramp inspection) has kept me in the "concept" stage.
