I just returned from Oshkosh were I bought the iFly 720 (shane (I think was his name) is one heck of a salesman). Great unit and I am going to enjoy it immensely.

However a big dissapointment was finding that NEXRAD is only available with ADS-B and not through WiFi weather planning. Granted that the data can't be used for short range flying through the weather but it is imperative info for planning purposes. I can currently do that with Garmin Pilot and Naviator on my Android tablet.

I flew to Osh with a borrowed Garmin 496 with XM weather and found the follwoing features useful and hope they make it to the iFly:

Fuel to waypoint or destination calculated with data in flight (time and aircraft profile), AOPA database (this was great for the long trip to find hotels, cars etc), volume control in the nav application (got to be able to mute the music if needed), distance (which you have) and time rings or vector, sunrise/sunset, VNAV widget in main map (looks like a tiny glide slope to let you know you are in the right vertical descent profile, slightly better quality in vector mode graphics (which I use a lot when high and need to decluter.

Just being picky, great unit guys and very happy to have found a G**min option!!

Chris

I agree 88U, we need to have NEXRAD shown in prefligt mode while on the ground. There are several ways to get WiFi these days, including the new smartphones with WiFi Hotspots so that WiFi is available on the ground in the cockpit or sitting in a FBO waiting for a storm to pass. The WiFi connection is the easy part. Determining how to serve up the NEXRAD pictures could be a challenge.

Hey Guys,

I was just speaking with Walter about this today. It's something that's been on my mind for a while and reconfirmed at Oshkosh. Prognosis is good here, Walter agrees it's a good addition so I think it will be escalated on the wishlist. Our intial thoughts are to offer NEXRAD when connected to Wi-Fi and to possibly even include a Low-Res NexRad image downloaded upon a WX/TFR Update. Also to sense if you are connected to Wi-Fi and and update WX/TR and NEXRAD data automatically without having to perform an update.

With the addition of the 720 and Wi-Fi, there are many more times the iFly 720 can be connected to Wi-Fi. Even possible in the air with a mobile hotspot, however mobile Wi-Fi in the air is spotty. Keep you eyes out, no deadline set but it is definately moved up on the priority list.

Thanks! The auto weather updates really sounds good along with NEXRAD.
