While on a long trip to the PNW this past couple of weeks, I noted that some of the aviation data base dates were coming up during the trip. I didn't have time to do updates on the trip, but as we returned back to Georgia, I got messages across the screen notifing me of expired data. It happened sometimes at inopportune times. I just wanted to bring up a question about this subject, along with the message that keeps coming up about Windows CE (I think). Couldn't these messages appear when we are not in motion or maybe someone has a better idea. Any thoughts appreciated.

I can understand the expired chart notices--because, after all, AP isn't in business to let us navigate for free. On the other hand--and as you suggested--it would be more pleasant if the notices didn't appear in flight. BEFORE flight, while planning a flight, would be much better, and it would probably work at least as well for AP's cashflow.

I really like your idea about delaying WinCE error messages, especially when one pops up on short final, as it did yesterday. Not sure it's possible, though, because it's an operating system error, not iFly's.

What annoys me most is when I'm on an auto-pay subscription and iFly keeps putting up notices that my subscription is going to expire in [n] days. THAT is annoying.

This has been discussed before, and I think AP's intention is that the chart validity check be done--and any appropriate expiration notices be presented to the user--immediately after startup.  So I think this is a bug, and I would suggest submitting a bug report with the logs from the flight and a description of the behavior.

The Windows CE pop-up has been mentioned by me on a phone call, the other reason for this thread is for ideas and to see if others think the chart pop-up is a distraction and might be handled differently.

Like I said, in the past there have been discussions between users and AdventurePilot re: how the chart validity check should be performed and the user be alerted, and my recollection of the result of those discussions is that it should all happen shortly after the app is launched.  Thus, I don't think the app behavior you observed is consistent with how AP said they would make it behave.  Thus, I think this behavior is a bug, and worthy of submitting a bug report.

Edit:  The discussion was in the Beta forum, so won't be visible to all forum visitors.  The summary is that AP agreed the logic could be improved, and implied that it would be, but there was never positive confirmation that the improvement was actually implemented.  This was about a year and a half ago (late 2020).  Maybe Brolin could provide a status report.
