Any thought ever given to adding flight planning to iFly connect? It is a very convenient tool for updating the iFly data. If we could do some rudimentary flight planning a la Skyvector or some other model, it would save time and effort and add to the convenience that much more. I have been looking for a way to leave my iFly in the plane but I end up taking it out to plan/enter my routes and set up my iFly for the flight. I'm sure it wouldn't be a real money maker for iFly and you do have a business to run, but it would be a real convenience and differentiator for the product.

Tom,

Yes, this is on our internal Wish-List. The goal is to have a All-Inclusive flight planning solution. My vision, thought it might be a little different than Walter's, would allow you to plan a flight online and "push or publish" to your user account. Then you could pull in that Flight Plan from your account via the wi-fi on the 720 or export as a GPX file for use on the 520 or 700. The end result is to get a complete flight planning solution online to integrate with the iFly.

Currently, you can plan a flight on some alternative sites like the AOPA Flight Planner, Flightsoft, or EnFlight and they have an option to export or save your flight as a GPX file. You can then put that GPX file on a USB thumb drive and load it into your iFly from the USB drive via the Flight Plan page. This works very well at this time. I hope this helps.

Now that they have most of the bugs worked out of the AOPA online flight planner I have started using it again. Can this file be dropped into the SD card as well as the Thumb Drive? That would be most interesting as the AOPA planner can be used to file the flight plan as well.

Tim,

As of now, I would drop on the USB drive. We are currently only look to load new imported plans from the USB drive. This may change in the future. You can also save your externally created plan from the USB to the iFly and it will be in the load list until you remove it. I hope this helps.

Shane, I don't know if your solution would accomplish my goal which would be leave my iFly in the plane. If I could do it all on iFly Connect and save it to the SD card, all that would be needed is to remove the SD card between flights. To do anything via WiFi means (at least for me) taking the iFly out of the plane.

Thanks for the consideration.

TM
