IFly GPS has Satellite View of airports when you zoom in far enough. That is good but I'd like to see Satellite View as an option for entire map, like ForeFlight has.  Right now IFly GPS has VFR, Vector, IFR lo/hi, 3D EFIS and instruments. Being able to see on the map what you see out the window can be useful, especially when looking for a particular ground feature during flight planning. I now use Googe Maps to find the feature I want to see from the air, note it's lat/lon and then created a custom waypoint in IFly to navigate to. In ForeFlight, I can find the feature in ForeFlight's satellie view and tap it for a Direct To waypoint.

Sounds like a good idea, if it can be done.  If it can, count me as a +1.

But I would think, at first blush, that it's too much data to keep on a device, and thats why it's only done for airports.  That you'd need an internet connection to download "pieces" at a time.  But you say ForeFlight has it?

Yeah, the technical limitation there is going to be the size of all that data.  Not just storage, but also downloading from iFly's servers.  Maybe also licensing issues, but I don't really know how that stuff works.

Does FF show that satellite imagery only when connected to the internet, or also when offline?

ForeFlight displays entire GLOBE in satellite view and it does not require internet connection. Satellite view does not slow down panning or zooming in any way and the detail level when zooming in is excellent, just like on Google Earth.
