What would be the benefit of including those spreadsheets in iFly GPS vs using some other spreadsheet software loaded on your tablet?

Well, one benefit would be the data would be available on iFly hardware devices, where you can't load other apps.

But the question I'd ask is, why kludge general spreadsheet functionality into an aviation app?  Just include the SR/SS data somewhere where the context makes sense, like on an airport info tab.

Re: Moon phases, that's a fun bit of trivia, but I expect exceedingly few pilots make in-flight decisions based on that.  For those who are interested, it's easy enough to look up preflight.  Many phone weather widgets show that prominently.

Well, Cobra, you answered Tim's question.  As for your questions - you are right.  There are apps now days that cover a lot of our aviations calculations.  But again, I'd like to have these apps on my iFly device.  And since all of these apps can be put onto a spreadsheet, why not have a spreadsheet app so that each pilot can build and modify his/her sheets to suit their needs?  Here is a list of sheets that I have in my aviation folder:  Traffic Pattern Heading, Head/Cross Wind for Take-Off and Landing, Climb/Descend Calculations, Wind Direction & Speed, Radius of Action, True Air Speed (TAS), TAS Test, Convert - Temp., Pressure Alt., Density Alt., True Alt., Rate of Climb (Ft/nm to Ft/min), Volume & Weight Convertion, Take-Off Breakeven Wind Velocity, V-Speeds, Take-Off Roll & Climb, Weight & Balance, USA Time Zones, and Phone Numbers, to name a few.  Again, yes, you can find apps for most of these calculations but having them all in a spreadsheet format makes them consistant in their use.  Do I use all of these sheets on each flight?  Of course not.  But some of them. like Density Alt. and Take-Off Breakeven Wind Velocity, when you need them, you really need them and I don't want to be stranded on an air field out in the middle of no where with out some means of calculating the 'go, no go' decision.  And before someone asks, I've long misplaced my E6B.  -  Jim Williams  -  But, I completely understand that if most people using iFly do not need to fly by the numbers, then iFly doesn't need a spreadsheet.  BTW, how many people are finding that hand writing on their devices is a useful tool?  (Please, I'm not trying to be sarcastic.  I'm just curious.  I really belive in "Nothing ventured, nothing gained."

I would not assume that most people using iFly GPS don't "fly by the numbers."  However, for most of us, it's probably easier to use a computer or other device for such calculations vs an iFly device.  Many people do not remove their iFly device from their airplane.  I would prefer to use my computer or cell phone.  There are already plenty of spreadsheet apps available.  Now, if the spreadsheet was feeding information directly into the iFly program, I can see value in that.

It looks to me like this thread split into two.  The OP was asking for Sunrise & Sunset.  I'm "+1" on that request.

I say let's not hijack the original thread -- put a request for spreadsheet support in another Wish List thread where it belongs as its own subject.  But, since it's here right now: on the spreadsheet issue I agree with Tim.

I agree that the the spreadsheet comment is a hijack of the original request, and I'm guilty of propagating it--apologies.

I also am not arguing against the value of spreadsheets--there is a reason that Excel is one of the most widely used software applications around the world--and it's not surprising that folks have found aviation uses for them.

But a spreadsheet application is...a spreadsheet application.  I don't think it's appropriate to ask AP to try to try to create their own version of Excel and graft it onto iFly.  Spreadsheet apps already exist for phones and tablets, so it's easy enough to add that capability in that way if you want it.

A lot of pilots take photos when they fly, using the camera apps on their phones, but I don't think it makes sense for AP to code their own camera app and incorporate it into iFly.  Let's not reinvent the wheel.
