It seems to me that some smart programmers could gather this Skew-T data and build a cloud cover bases and tops map to superimpose on the verticle profile for a flight plan. That would be really slick - use the aircraft profile to utilize the forecasts to show the expected cloud layers over the timeline of the flight. Maybe even cross check the data with METARs and TAFs.

I've thought the same thing. Since a Skew-T is for a specific point, a Skew-T could be run for a point every 20 or 30 miles along the route, and a narrow cloud cover/freezing level graphic displayed on the vertical profile. The main drawback is the processing power required to create each Skew-T - it would take some horsepower and iFly might have to upgrade their servers (big big $$$). I flew a 522NM leg today, in rain and dodging storms. Assuming each Skew-T takes around 20 seconds to create, that means it would take about 8 or 9 minutes to create the 21 Skew-T's required for 20NM spacing. BUT... how cool would it be to advance a slider on the vertical profile screen and watch how the clouds and winds and freezing level change with time. Like I said in an earlier post, maybe by version 20...

Shane,

Any thing you can share that you're working on and when we might see these last ones on this list?

Don't know if it has been suggested yet, but a friend with Foreflight has a cloud cover layer that is very handy for checking along the flight route. He can also change the opacity and look at the clearing of clouds over that last few hours so he can estimate when it will be clearer along the way.

Hi John,

That one is definitely on the wish-list. It would only be for internet weather at this time ADS-B-B does not include Satellite Cloud Cover. I believe this and other weather data is on the FAA list to add to the ADS-B feed. We'll keep an eye on it from here too. We had also talked about having an option to show "Cloud Coverage" as a graphic layer, kinda like how the ADDS Weather Site does it. Stay tuned and good feedback.
