I see that autoclose isn't popular here, so let me try one more time to make the case. Or perhaps to make the case that this would be a nice user-settable option.

To me, the way the Runway Extension window is now, it would be like clicking an "Open File" menu in Windows, then clicking to open n a file to open, and then having to manually close the "Open File" dialog after the file opened.

The custom ROM for my Tablet offers auto-close for the Tiles (and Notification) shades, which I have enabled. So, for example, after tapping a Quick Tile for Expanded Desktop, the Tile shade rolls back up. Since I rarely make more than one choice on the Tiles, this saves a step and is a nice convenience. I'm frustrated that iFly doesn't do (or offer) the same feature.

The fact that I can tap anywhere on the map to close the window (as is with the Quick View) is a nice compromise - at least I don't have to be precise on where I tap to close. But it's still an extra step and I am constantly amazed how easy it is to end up in an "uncommanded" bank in the Glasair because I've got my head down too long drilling thru menus in iFly. So as I've said before, anything that can reduce the user's head down time is a plus.

Perhaps a two second delay on autoclose would satisfy most user's concerns? If you fat finger the wrong runway and/or want multiple runways, a one second delay before auotclose would give the user time to make the correction.

As for fat fingering in turbulence - well, perhaps I'm not flying in as much challenging wx as others. Only been flying iFly for a year now, but I haven't had a problem tapping the wrong thing in turbulence. My tablet is set to "Medium" delay for touch in the Accessibility Setting, so perhaps that mitigates the problem. I don't know if the iFly boxes have a similar touch delay feature.

Mike,

It's a little different as the Window scenario you explain typically only supports one selection, then auto closes. But it is have multiple selection options, then I think you typically have to close it. I can definitely see your point if there is only one runway to extend, but there are always two runways, ie.18/36, and many times more. It's nice to extend your primary, then extend a crosswind option or grass option. We'll continue to bounce it around with Walter, Brian and monitor the demand as well.

I've actually proposed a Menu Auto-Close concept as well. Basically, if you get a menu on screen and don't touch it for XX seconds, user defined time and on/off, then it will auto-close stale menus, etc. If implemented, that may resolve your issue and more. It's on the consideration block. The downside is that if you get distracted for longer than your set threshold, you would be forced to go back to that spot. Stay tuned.

Cool! Could make it a user selectable option, with default being no auto-close.

I strongly second this suggestion. I like the popup info box that appears when we touch the screen, but too often the app interprets a missed touch (zoom in/out/final destination etc) as a need to bring up said popup box . It would be quite appropriate to have the popup box disappear after a user selectable time.

Thinking even more about this scenario, the popup box already needs an additional button press to display the appropriate level of information, so if no other button on the popup is pressed having the info box disappear is no loss but rather a way to deal with an errant finger press.

Just touch the screen anywhere and the box will close.
