It would be very convenient if we could search for airports by city and state. As it is, I have to go online to do that. Not possible when away from home and no wifi available. Often, I don't even know where in the state that city/town is, which makes map searches very difficult.

Hi David,

When doing a search, you might try selecting the "Search Full Text" option. This will open up the text search to look at City, State, partial Name or other details. The "Search Only Codes" only focuses on the identifiers. Please know that the Full Text Search option does take longet to perform.

We are looking at an improved and more intellegent search that populates a list as you begin to type. We hope to have this deployed in 2015. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Outsstanding! Thank you.

Hmmm. "Search Full Text" is already on.

"Huntsville" works, but "Arkansas City" (in Kansas - that may explain it!) does not.. "Meridianville" in Alabama does not work and they have quite a large, modern airpot, MDQ. Ok, it is a database population thang.

Hi David,

Yep, sometimes the FAA or Airport has their city or location listed differently than actual to draw more traffic near major cities. Example, our very own KTKI, "McKinney National Airport" is located in McKinney, TX, but is listed in the FAA database under Dallas, TX. A search of McKinney will only come up because it's in the name, however it used to be called Collin County Regional and a McKinney search would come up blank. This may likely be the case with the respective airports you mention.

KMDQ is shown is Meridianville, but when you pull up KMDQ, the FAA database has it listed in Huntsville, AL. MDQ is about 6 miles from the city of Hunstville, but closer or in Meridianville. Unfortunately the FAA allows the airports to list themselves in larger nearby cities, making these search parameters more vague or difficult.

We are working to continually improve our search fields and methods, but we are somewhat limited by the FAA database itself. Thanks for your patience. I hope this helps clear this up some.
