With the new aircraft profiles (great feature!!) and the altitude above ground capability, it would be nice to have the ability to bring up a "circle of survivability" that would show the best glide distance in an engine out scenario. This could be a very potential life saver in an engine-out emergency. Another feature could be to show airports and headings for any airport within the glide distance. Prioritizing by heading and distance, and if weather information is available, maybe most favorable runway for landing into the wind.

I'm thinking there is a button (top menu) that activates the feature, the glide distance graphic would show up, as well as a list of most likely candidates for a viable airport. Selecting the airport from the list would give heading and CTAF or Tower radio frequencies, and suggested runway (based on wind information).

In an emergency, having the heading, airport CTAF or tower frequencies show up automatically in a window might be nice as well. Anything that would lessen pilot workload in an emergency situation is helpful.

Thoughts?

That may be a patented feature in a competing product

There are many ways and companies that do Gliding and Emergency scenarios. One company patented thier specific procedure to doing this, but it is not a blanket patent. This is a feature that is on the wishlist. We are actually compiling some Glide Ratio data per aircraft, etc for when the time comes to begin developing this feature. Stay tuned.

Shane - I'm assuming this will of course take into account glide around terrain, better achieved L/D over the ground with a tailwind than headwind and therefore resemble much more of an amoeba shape than a cone like ;-) Nah, keep it simple.

That has been the discussion. Accounting for Terrain and Winds, if avaiblabe. Not everyone is getting live WX on thier device. It's still early on, but I think like most of the other feature, you'll like the end product. We aim for that balance of being practical and simple-to-use.
