I suspect I`m not the only pilot who rarely files a formal flight plan with the FAA, but very often ``file`` an informal one with a friend, spouse, co-owner of aircraft, etc. Could be as little as a phone call prior to takeoff giving destination and ETA.

Lately on the iPad version I`ve taken to capturing the full route on the sectional screen and the full flight-plan screen and email them to my co-owner/pilot. Capturing the screens on the iPad is reasonably simple and between that and emailing both screens out in a single email as my ``flight plant``. Probably takes less than two minutes. And since, between having WiFi at the airport plus a cellular-data-plan in the iPad, can nearly always email it out, it`s a nice backup.

But if would be nice to have a button/feature in iFly iPad and Android that said ``email out existing navigation screen and flight plan`` which would also have a user configurable default email address. That way what takes two full minutes could take only seconds and not only become more convenient (and thus used more often) but if cellular internet connection is available in flight (as it often is) could even be used in flight in both emergencies and less pressing occassions.

FWIW, I believe I may have already posted as a suggestion something several GPS ground apps have .....which is a simple ``email my location`` feature. This suggested feature would superceed that feature as it would necessarily be also emailing out present location.

Alex,

Good feedback. We are adding a Flight Filing shortly. Having an option to "Send Flight Plan via Email" would be pretty cool.

We could also snap a screen shot of the sectional route and attach to the email. I'll put this on the wishlist for future consideration.

Shane,

If you start emailing lat/long it is important from a SAR perspective to have it time stamped. It is easy to predict a scenario where someone asks iFly to email a flight plan with a position report but the phone or tablet does not find a data connection for some time. In this case, the airplane will have been many miles away from the reported position at the "sent" time stamped on the email itself.

I second that motion, for the same reasons.

Also for same reason ( "...[if] the phone or tablet does not find a data connection for some time...." after user presses the new-to-be-email-flight-plan-button important that if the email goes into the outbox rather that straight out the either the system be configured to send immeadiatly on available Internet connection (that IS the default behavior of iPad, but I'm not sure about Android?) or the pilot be informed that it's not going to go out without user interaction later.

There is a potential user misunderstanding there because in the iPad when you touch Send it makes the reassuring sending sound even if the mail is in limbo waiting for a connection.

Just some fine points.
