It would be great to be able to display your present position a bit lower on screen, say a third or a quarter of the way up from the bottom of the screen. While it may be nice to know what is behind you I rarely need this info and am much more interested in the road ahead. Right now it seems front to back are just about equally weighted. Maybe the developers could create an option in settings to select a default PPOS screen location and then when you select the ‘Follow Plane” icon it would use the default position display.
I figure that if I really needed to turn around I could just scroll the map and then consider a plan before/during a turn. The lower PPOS would save some screen real estate for, in my case, pertinent info on what is ahead, and I could stay on a smaller map scale (or a more appropriate one) most of the time. I am more familiar with this lower PPOS type of display in the ‘other aircraft’ I fly and I am wondering if others see any benefit in this. A drawback to this may be that it might be hard for some to see their present position with the aircraft icon lower on the screen, depending on where they have their display mounted……..I am sure there are other major reasons I have not yet thought of.
I have just started using the android version of iFly and I’m sure I haven’t figured out all of the features completely so maybe this is already available and I missed it. This is really great software and I am ecstatic that there is finally a great GPS android app (I have nothing against Apple, it is just not for me). Kudos to the developers……great job.
